Appeal to CM to increase reservation for Okkaligars based on population

All the ministers and MLAs of this community of BJP met Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today at Suvarna Soudha to increase the amount of reservation for Okkaliga community.

Speaking later, the Chief Minister promised to look into the demands of the parties. In the past, Sri Nirmalanandanath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math has also given a request in this regard. Even now, ministers and MLAs have appealed. The Minister responded that all these petitions will be sent to the Backward Classes Commission.

Dr. K. Sudhakar said that compared to the total population of the Okkaliga community, the reservation given in the field of education and occupation is less. He said that a request has been made to the Chief Minister for increasing the reservation. Compared to the population of Okkaliga community, the reservation given in education and occupational field is not sufficient.

Most of the Okkaligs are farmers and are contributing immensely to the country. For this, a request has been submitted to the Chief Minister to take action to increase the reservation. We have not asked for more reservation, only as per the population. There is no pressure here.

Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai understands the needs of all communities. He said that he will give social justice to all. The hearing regarding the increase in reservation is still going on in the Supreme Court. He said that he is confident that the court will give a positive verdict.

Narayanaswamy, Somasekhara Reddy, Sanjiva Matanduru, L Nagendra, Bharati Shetty, A. Deve Gowda, Puttanna, Chidananda Gowda, SR Viswanath and others were present in the meeting.
